Blaine brought home this butternut squash from his school’s garden that his principal gave to him.  He was so excited!  Andrew grilled it and we all enjoyed eating it.

Sarah’s first sports class

Sarah wanted to sign up for a multisports class this fall, and she had her first class on 9/21.  It was a beautiful day so we had a picnic lunch in the park before her class started.  The first two weeks were soccer, then there were two weeks of t-ball, then 2 lacrosse, and a final class TBD.

Back to the Bronx Zoo

I took the kids to the Bronx Zoo on 9/19.  We started out at the monorail, of course.

The kids were disappointed that the Nature Trek was closed that day, so we kept going and saw the lions and baboons, then we went on the bug carousel.

After that we had some lunch and headed to the gorilla exhibit, followed by the highlight of Sarah’s day, the aardvark burrow.  Sarah is very interested in aardvarks, thanks to Sandra Boynton.

Lastly, the kids and I both tried something new — our first dippin dots experience.  I don’t think anyone was that impressed.

Larchmont Day

On 9/15 we went to Larchmont Day and climbed on the big trucks!  The kids got to go in a bouncy castle and pet some goats, and we enjoyed some live music and got some gelato.

Here are two other pictures documenting the kids’ love of kale chips.  Finally a vegetable that they both (sometimes) like!

Back to School

Blaine’s first day of 1st grade was the day after Labor Day, 9/5.

Sarah did not go back to school until the following week, 9/12, so we had time to finish her “family book” for her classroom.

We were also joined for lunch by Aunt Jody, her boyfriend, John, and his father, en route to CA/VA from Maine.  It was so nice to see Aunt Jody, even for just a few hours!

The next day we enjoyed our time with Gram and Grand-dad.  Blaine called a meeting to discuss… something.

Sarah enjoyed having both grandparents read The Book with No Pictures.

And there was a lively game of Sorry, followed by several rounds of dinosaur bingo.

The next morning the kids got to enjoy some delicious peaches Grand-dad picked up at the farmers’ market.

Last week of August

The last week of August we had doctor and dentist appointments.  We also found time for a pirate party at the library and we did a drop-in painting session at Creative Corner, where we will be having Sarah’s birthday party in October.
