February 2024: Nevis and St Kitts

My Feb pics are almost entirely of our trip to St Kitts and Nevis! We flew via Atlanta which meant that we got to enjoy “the fun place to eat” in the airport.

On the second flight to St Kitts I watched one of last year’s big movies, “The Holdovers” starring Paul Giamatti. Coincidentally, the main character is a holdover at his boarding school for the holidays because his mother decides at the last minute to ditch him from their planned trip to St Kitts! Ha.

Our first leg of the vacation was in Nevis, so we took a car from the airport to the ferry boat over to Nevis. On the way our driver pointed out Robert Redford’s house, aka Sundance Ridge, supposedly on the top of the peak in this pic…

Then a quick 10 minute boat ride, followed by another cab ride, and we arrived at the Mt Nevis Hotel! Lounge time!

The food there was excellent, we had dinner twice and breakfast as well, everything was delicious. The pool and the view was beautiful.

The first day we went to Pinneys Beach on the west side of the island. It was beautiful and we went to a BBQ place on the beach for lunch.

The second day we went to Chrishi Beach Club — beautiful water, comfy seats, delicious food and drink.

We liked it so much we went back the next day as well! Then we took the ferry back to St Kitts for the second half of our trip…

On St Kitts we lucked out at our hotel (the beautiful Sunset Reef St Kitts) and got upgraded to the fancy suite with 4 bedrooms.

Our first day in St Kitts we went to the Carambola Beach Club and rented some chairs. The water was full of different kinds of fish the kids could see with just their goggles– it was a big hit.

From the other side you can see the beach club was set up to accommodate an army of beach-goers…

We did get some company when this elaborate ship pulled up which turned out to be a small fancy cruise ship of some sort! The cruise passengers strolled by in their prada loafers and went snorkeling but there weren’t any larger cruise ships docking that day so it wasn’t very crowded.

Day 2 in St Kitts we decided to stray from our usual sit-on-the-beach plan and went sightseeing at Fort Brimstone. I think I may have taken the most beautiful picture of a cannon, ever?

After touring the fort Blaine really wanted to climb this other hill nearby, so Sarah and I sat by the gift shop to observe while Andrew and Blaine climbed.

After the fort we spent some more time at the pool at our hotel.

On our last day we went back to Carambola, even though it was much more crowded since there were cruise ships docked on the island. There was also a wild dolphin swimming around and entertaining us all.

The trip went by too quickly and then we were on our way back to the US. On the way back we’d planned to stay over one night in Atlanta given the unreliability of flights back from the Caribbean. It also presented a great opportunity to check out the Atlanta Aquarium and to have lunch with Aunt Jan and Uncle Jack!
